Keyword Research Ideas For Vacation Rentals
I think keyword research is the most important first step in building your online vacation rental business. This is where battles are won and lost… Choose the wrong keywords (ones with no traffic) or pick keywords too competitive & you will never rank for them.
The first thing I like to do when choosing keywords is to brainstorm… I try to think of anything and all keywords related to my vacation rental.
Be sure not to limit yourself here. I like to ask family & friends to get in on the brainstorming session with me… Free pizza & beer for an hour of brainstorming!
Here are some ideas to help you get started:
- Who you are – Your name
- Your business name
- What products & services you offer
- Generic & specific terms for your industry- vacation rentals, cabin rentals, etc.
- Local variations of where you are – city vacations, city vacation rentals, city lodging (I am going to have a whole page dedicated to these variations later).
- Special events & festivals in your area & surrounding towns
- Park Names & hiking trails – people love parks
- Grocery stores
- Best restaurants – reviews & ratings
- Real Estate agents –
- Attorneys – sometimes things get out of hand.
- Beaches
- Golf courses
- Fishing spots – Fish farms, fishing supplies, charters, supply rentals
- Arcades
- Pee Wee golf courses
- Skiing – Snowboard facilities, snowshoe trails
- Gym’s – Places to exercise
- Dog parks – to some a dog is like a child
- Horse racing
- Museums
- Rental facilities – boats, skis, snowboards, motorcycles, cars, snowmobiles, horses, bicycles, etc.
- Town history
- Well known public officials
- Gold Panning
- Campgrounds
- RV waste drop off facilities
- Cave exploration trips
- Mountain climbing
- Repelling
- Rafting expeditions
- Houseboat Rentals
- National Forests
- Theaters
- Casinos – places to gamble
- Places to get great photos
- Rodeos
- Fairs
- Places to have a wedding
- Places to have a meeting or conference
- Bars, pubs & dance clubs
- Wineries
- Large & small airports – More & more people are private pilots
- Train rides
- Banks
- Internet cafes – for rental that don’t have internet access
- Antique stores
- Gardens
- Shopping malls
- Short terms schools – like car racing/driver improvement, golf lessons, horse riding lessons
- Churches
- Ranger stations
- Swimming pools
- Community service numbers – police, fire, electric, water, poison control, hospital, etc.
- Art galleries
- Places to pick your own fruits & vegetables
- Kids activities
- Surfing
- Amusement Parks
- As a person using Google search, what would you type into the box if you were looking to travel?
- Make sure to use any & all variations of the word, including both singular & plural versions. Eg. San Francisco Vacation Rentals vs San Francisco Vacation Rental.
That list should help get the juices flowing.
You might be tempted to lump all your info on say, Theaters, onto one page, but you must resist the temptation.
To optimize your site and your keywords in the best way possible, you need to dedicate a separate page to each item. So if you have 30 National Parks in your area, you will write about each one on its own page. Got lots of events? Write a review of each event. You will be amazed at how much traffic (and renters!) you will start to attract.
It’s a lot of work, I know, but that’s the way it is. Don’t be a whiner. 🙂 I have some writers on staff if you need help; as of now they charge $20.00 bucks for a single 400 word article.
