Have You Checked Out Google Labs?

Have you noticed that every few months Google comes out with a new product or service?

Have you ever wanted to know what those products are going to be long before they’re released by Google?

Google Labs is like a virtual playground, where you can check out the latest Google prototypes, play around with them, and offer feedback directly to the development engineers.

The folks over at Google decided to create Google Labs so the engineers had somewhere to develop and test possible new features, without overwhelming users with stuff that may or may not actually go the distance and be released.

At Google Labs, you are an important part of the process, helping the engineers to weed out the bad products while encouraging the good ones.

Some of the current prototypes available to try out and comment on are:

Google Checkout Store Gadget
A Google Gadget that lets you set up a store in minutes by filling out a Google Docs spreadsheet and dropping a gadget in Sites, Blogger, iGoogle, or your own web site.

Google Listen
Android app providing a personalized audio news-magazine loaded with fresh and interesting content whenever it is turned on.

Google News Timeline
A web application that organizes information chronologically. Google News Timeline allows users to view news, scanned newspapers and magazines, blog posts, sports scores, and more on a zoomable, graphical timeline.

Google Squared
Fetch and organize facts from across the web. Google Squared automatically constructs a table of facts about any category you specify.

Because not all prototyped applications and features will be released to the public, be sure to check Google Labs often for new stuff to experiment with.
